The Right to Information Act, 2005 is a landmark legislation enacted by the Government of India to promote transparency, accountability, and openness in the functioning of public authorities. It empowers citizens to seek information from government bodies, thereby making governance more transparent and responsive to the people it serves. Under the provisions of this Act, any citizen of India may request information from a public authority, which is required to respond within the stipulated time frame. The Act strengthens the democratic framework by enabling informed participation of citizens and serves as an effective mechanism to curb corruption and enhance efficiency in public administration.

As a responsible public organization, the Himachal Pradesh Ex-Servicemen Welfare Department is fully committed to upholding the objectives and mandate of the RTI Act, 2005. The Department recognizes the importance of proactive disclosure and timely dissemination of information as essential components of transparent and accountable governance. Every effort is made to provide accurate, reliable, and comprehensive information to the public, except where disclosure is exempted under the provisions of the Act.

For effective implementation of the RTI Act, the Department has designated Public Information Officers (PIOs) and First Appellate Authorities in accordance with statutory requirements. Citizens are encouraged to utilize available digital platforms to access information conveniently, thereby promoting awareness and informed engagement.
